Situated at the “Loop of the Main” with an outstanding view from the river Main to the hills of the Steigerwald, Volkach offers everything holiday-makers desire: a sensuous countryside, cultural discoveries, delicious wine and food and an historical old town. If you accompany me for a tour through this charming Franconian town, you will see timber-framed houses, the Renaissance town hall, Gothic churches, splendid Baroque dwell houses and you will discover how people live and have lived. The highlight of this tour is Tilmann Riemenschneider’s world- famous masterpiece “Madonna in a Wreath of Roses” in the late Gothic pilgrimage chapel St. Mary in the Vineyard.
